The Equine Photography Retreat 2020 // Wellington, FL

Before a virus sequestered me at home in Missouri for 3 months, I had the privilege of teaching a group of incredible women at the inaugural Equine Photography Retreat in Wellington, FL. To say I was so encouraged by the spirit of community and the individuality I saw at the retreat would be an understatement. Each person I met was eager to learn, brimming with excitement for their craft, and really impressed me with their creativity and passion.

I taught several topics I feel strongly about: horse and rider posing for the candid and authentic bond, workflow to keep one’s business on track behind the scenes, in person sales for those wanting to learn the basics of selling personalized art as a whole client experience, and (my personal favorite) art with heart - how to work with equine charities.

I also had the opportunity to shoot some spectacular models in a few styled shoots.

The first shoot was a true treat getting to attend a styled shoot conducted by my dear friend and mentor Shelley Paulson of Shelley Paulson Photography (you can read about her EPR experience here!). Here are a few images from ATG Equestrian where we had amazing golden Florida sunset.

The second shoot was a two part shoot with model Cory McLaughlin of Headwaters Equestrian with her gorgeous greys Rio and Pants. During the day I taught my horse and rider posing class with Cory and Rio as my patient subjects. Check out some of those images below:

Later that evening, Cory did a quick change and I led a styled shoot on how to photograph the intimate relationship between horse and rider as well as how to photograph a rider with two horses. Here are some snaps from a fun pair of greys:

I was so honored to have had this experience. Teaching is a passion of mine, and I truly believe I gained just as much inspiration from the attendees than they did from me. Watching their “a-ha” moments and enthusiasm brought me such joy and I’m so excited for their futures.

I’m also excited for 2021 where I’ll be returning to EPR in a more intimate capacity.

I truly believe the knowledge gained at EPR can boost your business from 0 to 60 if utilized correctly, and I’m so excited to share that I will be providing individual coaching to each attendee to help give them focus and direction with their goals. I’m just over the moon pumped to provide such personalized support to amazing creatives!
